Conducting SCAMPIs^SM

Organizations that adopt the CMMI^® later undergo professional appraisals that assess their achievement of CMMI^® best practices.

Known formally as Standard CMMI^® Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI^SM) appraisals, these rigorous professional appraisals are led by an SEI-authorized Lead Appraiser and appraisal team, and can take up to two weeks to complete.

Of the three types, Class A SCAMPIs are the most formal. Once an organization successfully completes a SCAMPI A appraisal, the SEI recognizes their Maturity Level (2, 3, 4 or 5).

TECHSOFT's staff includes SEI-Authorized SCAMPI^SM Lead Appraisers, and we have extensive experience conducting SCAMPI appraisals for large, complex organizations.

The Capability Maturity Model^® Integration (CMMI^®) consists of models, an appraisal method, and training courses that provide a structured set of best practices that improve an organization's processes.

CMMI^® Training

To ensure that an organization's team has a solid understanding of the model and process improvement fundamentals, TECHSOFT provides extensive training, including the SEI's Introduction to Capability Maturity Model^® Integration course.

As your staff begins to implement process improvement, TECHSOFT will deliver a series of project-oriented workshops that provide a link from the theoretic to the practical for project-level practitioners.

These workshops, while providing an overview of the best practices of the model, emphasize hands-on activities to help the participants develop and document real-world plans for their own projects.

Gap Analysis

The TECHSOFT Process Team will conduct an on-site evaluation of an organization's old processes, comparing them to the best practices of CMMI^® to develop a "Gap Analysis." The gap analysis indicates those processes that could benefit from adopting the best practices of the CMMI^® model.

The TECHSOFT Process Team then establishes an overall Process Improvement approach for your organization based on the SEI's IDEAL Model. The IDEAL Model (so named for its elements Initiating, Diagnosing, Establishing, Acting, Learning) provides a set of sequenced process improvement activities that have proven effective in a wide variety of organizations.

Based on the diagnosis derived from the Gap Analysis, the TECHSOFT Process Team will help you establish the documentation needed to initiate your process improvement effort.

SEI Partner

The Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University is a leader in establishing models for process improvement that have been adopted by government and commercial interests in the U.S. and around the world.

To provide leadership in the transitioning of new systems engineering and software engineering technology into practice, Carnegie Mellon University/SEI licenses specific SEI technologies - typically training courses or assessment services - to organizations called "SEI Partners."

TECHSOFT is an SEI Partner and is licensed to provide the "Introduction to CMMI^®" course. To become an SEI Partner, TECHSOFT passed a rigorous selection criteria which included:

• Demonstrated ability to provide the highest quality training and consulting services, and include quality assurance for those services.
• Demonstrated ability to transition technology practices in commercial settings, including competence in organizational change management.
• TECHSOFT process engineers completed a number of SEI training courses designed to ensure the CMMI^® training services provided are academically superior and meet the high standards of CMU and the SEI.
