TECHSOFT Assists SPAWAR’s SSC Atlantic Common Submarine Radio Room
(CSRR) Program in Achievement of CMMI® Maturity Level 3
Charleston, South Carolina - TECHSOFT’s
ongoing support of the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic
(SSC Atlantic) CSRR Program in their process improvement initiatives
contributed to the program’s achievement of a CMMI Maturity Level 3 (ML3)
rating and their successful demonstration of significant cost savings
attributed to CMMI practice institutionalization.
The CMMI ML3 success was announced following a formal “Class A”
SCAMPISM appraisal conducted in October 2011 by SEI-certified Lead
Appraiser Orris E. Burns III. The four person appraisal team included
Burns and TECHSOFT CMMI Instructor, Mike Knox. The team reviewed
approximately 1000 artifacts and conducted formal interviews with 16
program managers, organizational managers, project leaders, process area
practitioners and other program support personnel.
TECHSOFT’s engineering process and CMMI experts’ coaching and
mentoring support to CSRR since 2008 included: recommending improvements
to existing project process architecture and implementations, reviewing
resultant documentation, providing training on CMMI and SSC Atlantic
process implementations, and performing gap analyses against the CMMI
model in Class B-based evaluations.
A tangible benefit of the process improvement initiative is that CSRR
exceeded established customer goals two years in a row, and the San
Diego-based sponsor sent representatives to review the CSRR processes
and learn about the key improvement drivers. As a result, the Charleston
team was requested to share project processes and lessons learned with
other members of the sponsor’s geographically distributed program team.
Moving forward, the CSRR Program is well positioned to continue to
deliver integrated, joint and coalition-interoperable CSRR capabilities
to our Navy's submarine platforms.
