Niceville, Florida - TECHSOFT has assisted
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, Niceville Operations in
its sustainment of a CMMI for Development, Maturity Level 3 rating. The
CMMI Maturity Level 3 (ML3) success was announced following a formal
SCAMPISM appraisal conducted in March 2012.
During the Final Findings Briefing, Tony Gonzalez, General Manager of
the Niceville Operations, stressed that he was very proud of everyone’s
hard work and their continued efforts in process improvement initiatives
which include CMMI, ISO and Lean Six Sigma. Gonzalez also stated that

processes and put into place new processes required by CMMI.
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is a business unit of
General Dynamics specializing in the design, development, and production
of warheads for tactical missiles, rockets, ammunition, and bombs.
TECHSOFT began assisting the Niceville Operations with their CMMI
program in June 2006, providing onsite mentoring, training, oversight,
and appraisal services. As a result, the GD facility met its aggressive
process improvement goals of achieving CMMI Maturity Level 2 by December
2007 and CMMI ML3 by March 2009. The most recent effort enabled the
Niceville Operations to retain their ML3 by meeting the SEI’s
requirement of successful re-appraisal every three years.
The SCAMPI appraisal was conducted by SEI-certified Lead Appraiser
Orris E. Burns III, who was assisted by four appraisal team members.
During the SCAMPI, the appraisal team reviewed 972 unique artifacts and
conducted formal interviews with 26 General Dynamics Ordnance and
Tactical Systems executives, project leaders, and process area

smooth appraisal, thanks in large part to the prior data collection and
CMMI mapping efforts of Cara Smith, one of TECHSOFT’s senior process
